The Board

Kansas City Food Trucks Association

We are a group of small business entrepreneurs who have set about changing the food landscape in the Kansas City metro by providing a diverse and eclectic variety of high quality food at affordable prices, from a mobile platform. The Kansas City Food Trucks Association was founded to be the official food truck advocacy organization for the local gourmet food truck industry. To address some of the impacts this food delivery concept is having on the Kansas City metro area, to ensure that our continued growth is a positive addition to the local economy, and to provide a source of information to the on-going discussions, we have come together to create the Kansas City Food Truck Association. By forming this organization we can speak with one voice to address and hopefully address any concerns of the various elements in the community. By creating a single representative entity, our hope is to make it possible to work with local governments, merchants associations and others to ensure our presence is positive experience for all concerned.

Our Goals:

  • Provide a single point of contact for those who wish to discuss any aspect of our businesses and to work to develop and maintain positive relations with all concerned.
  • Create a code of behavior for the food truck industry to ensure that we are good neighbors and a benefit to our communities.
  • Work cooperatively with municipalities and governmental bureaucracies to review codes, ordinances, procedures and enforcement so that they better address the realities of the food truck industry and not try to apply outdated and inapplicable rules to this novel and dynamic business model.
  • Develop a system of mentoring new operators so they can become positive additions to this culinary movement.
  • Create a system of addressing issues that may arise from our presence and develop equitable solutions to resolve any problems in the food truck industry.
  • Provide a contact point for members of the food truck community who wish to avail themselves of the services our members.

Building it from from scratch and with his late Grandma Virginias polish donut recipe, turned an ordinary fair treat into Kansas City’s favorite dessert truck, TheFunnelCakeTruck.  Hes been going nonstop for the last 11 years to get the dessert truck to the top while winning Food Networks “CakeWars”, KCSourceLinks Battle of the Brands, Pitch Magazine’s “SugarRush” and being featured in the local news and radio shows.  Never taking it for granted, Michael gives back by volunteering his time and supporting his favorite charities Head for the Cure, Light the Night KC, Harvesters, The American Red Cross, The Speak-Up foundation, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Michael’s mission has always been to support the trucks.  Since starting KCFoodtrucks in 2010 with Brandon Simpson of Jazzy B’s, he’s constantly sharing his skills and experience with owning a small business, managing social media, and creating a lasting brand in KC.
